Third World Debt Fund Raising Activities

Third World countries are given this name because either they are developing or still under-developed countries in terms of their economy. Most of the countries in the southern hemisphere come under this category.

These countries usually have a history of having been colonized by once-powerful countries. Once they became independent countries, they were still in need of financial assistance to maintain the economy of their country.

Debt levels keep mounting because interests on the loans keep spiraling upwards.  Thus the principal amount remains the same. Third world countries are caught in a Catch 22 situation. Even if their economy rises, so does the debt.

Much has been done and continues to be done to alleviate the third world country from the debt they owe to their foreign creditors.

Popular Rock artists have joined together to make the whole world, especially those considered to be First and Second World countries, aware of the problems that exist in Third World countries.

Their efforts have reached millions of fans and achieved worldwide awareness through the unifying and powerful communication of music.

There are hundreds of non-profit organizations working in third world countries to alleviate or upgrade systems of education in third world countries, or create health clinics to reach into the interiors where no health care programs have ever gone.

These non-profit organizations hand out free food to the poor on a daily basis. They also educate the people, teach them and give aids to work on crafts or skills, so that they can be self-supporting communities in the future.

There are many charity sports events conducted to raise funds for the benefit of the third world countries. Many corporate businesses pour a percentage of their profits into non-profit organizations to help them in their efforts to upgrade the overall living conditions of those living in the third world.

Most countries also offer tax exemption to individuals and businesses for donations made to charities.

Mass use of various kinds of media including the internet, television advertising, immediate access to tragedies in different parts of the third world countries help create, not only an awareness, but immediate response from people all over the world.

The 2004 Tsunami was once such tragic event evoking much response in donation of money, food, articles, rebuilding of homes and lives.  Much of that work is still ongoing. An internet site is one example of media use.

You don’t even have to donate money on this site – you simply click on the correct answer on word definitions. With each correct answer 400 grains of rice are given to people in the third world countries.

Young children in schools have also taken active part in organizing events for donation to third world countries. Students in one UK school organized school walks.  Encouraged by the donations given, these students went on to organize other activities to raise more money.

One of the incentives in giving is not only being aware of needy conditions around the world. If most people living in prosperous nations donate just a little bit towards alleviating the debt, truth is that a little money goes a long way in these countries.
